SCA Speech Page
Welcome to SCA Speech for the 2020-2021 school year! I am so excited to be working with your child this year and to watch them grow. I have been working as a speech pathologist for over 20 years, and have had the pleasure of working with students from SCA for the past 8 years. I also have four children who have attended SCA and I am an alum myself!
I will be posting all assignments and activities to this website this year. No paperwork will be coming home with your child, which will be different from past years. Expect all communication to come via email, or to be posted here on this page. Throughout the year, your child can access strategies, practice words, or tips to enhance their speech and language.
Please see the links page for Speech and Language Strategies for specific sounds.
Speech Practice for October: Just a few minutes a day can really increase your child's skills in speech and language. You can click on the attachment on the right to find a word list for your child to practice their specific sound. Reminders to practice each word "slowly" helps with placement and will give them a more accurate sound. The second attachment has some helpful reminders for your child about how their tongue, lips and cheeks move to make their speech sounds.
Practice for Pre-Readers: Have you child repeat the word after you read it. You can also make pictures of each word on index cards to help practice words. Remember to practice slowly using their "good sound".
Practice for Experienced Readers: Have your child read the word list slowly for a few minutes a day using their good speech sound. If they can do so easily, they can try to create a sentence using their targeted word.
Practice with Fluency Stuttering Strategies: A list of your child's fluency and easy stuttering strategies are attached to the right. Have your child practice reading a word list, saying a prayer, or describing a picture using one of the fluency strategies listed.
